  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 2-4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz sushi-grade tuna, diced into small cubes
  • 1 ripe avocado, diced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon wasabi paste (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped green onions
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 small wonton wrappers (optional, for serving)
  • Microgreens or edible flowers for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Ensure your tuna is sushi-grade. Purchase from a reputable fish market or grocery store specializing in fresh seafood.
  2. Dice the tuna into small, uniform cubes (about 1/4 inch).
  3. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the diced tuna with soy sauce, sesame oil, lime juice, and wasabi paste. Stir gently to coat the tuna evenly.
  4. Add the finely chopped green onions and cilantro. Mix gently to combine.
  5. Season with salt and pepper to taste, starting with a small pinch of salt.
  6. Cut the avocado in half, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a bowl.
  7. Mash the avocado lightly with a fork, keeping it a bit chunky. Add a squeeze of lime juice to prevent browning.
  8. Season the mashed avocado with a pinch of salt and pepper.
  9. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  10. Cut each wonton wrapper into quarters to create small triangles.
  11. Place the cut wonton wrappers on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush lightly with olive oil and sprinkle with salt.
  12. Bake for 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Watch closely to prevent burning.
  13. Remove from the oven and let cool.
  14. Place a small ring mold or round cookie cutter on a serving plate.
  15. Spoon a layer of mashed avocado into the bottom of the mold, pressing down gently.
  16. Add a layer of the tuna mixture on top of the avocado, pressing down slightly.
  17. Carefully lift the ring mold off the tartare.
  18. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top and garnish with microgreens or edible flowers if desired.
  19. Serve the tuna tartare immediately, optionally with wonton crisps on the side.

Notes

  • Ensure the tuna is fresh and sushi-grade for safety.
  • Adjust the amount of wasabi paste according to your spice preference.
  • The wonton crisps are optional but add a nice crunch to the dish.
