Ingredients
Scale
- 8 oz sushi-grade tuna, diced into small cubes
- 1 ripe avocado, diced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- 1 teaspoon wasabi paste (adjust to taste)
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped green onions
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh cilantro
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 small wonton wrappers (optional, for serving)
- Microgreens or edible flowers for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Ensure your tuna is sushi-grade. Purchase from a reputable fish market or grocery store specializing in fresh seafood.
- Dice the tuna into small, uniform cubes (about 1/4 inch).
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine the diced tuna with soy sauce, sesame oil, lime juice, and wasabi paste. Stir gently to coat the tuna evenly.
- Add the finely chopped green onions and cilantro. Mix gently to combine.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste, starting with a small pinch of salt.
- Cut the avocado in half, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a bowl.
- Mash the avocado lightly with a fork, keeping it a bit chunky. Add a squeeze of lime juice to prevent browning.
- Season the mashed avocado with a pinch of salt and pepper.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cut each wonton wrapper into quarters to create small triangles.
- Place the cut wonton wrappers on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush lightly with olive oil and sprinkle with salt.
- Bake for 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Watch closely to prevent burning.
- Remove from the oven and let cool.
- Place a small ring mold or round cookie cutter on a serving plate.
- Spoon a layer of mashed avocado into the bottom of the mold, pressing down gently.
- Add a layer of the tuna mixture on top of the avocado, pressing down slightly.
- Carefully lift the ring mold off the tartare.
- Sprinkle sesame seeds on top and garnish with microgreens or edible flowers if desired.
- Serve the tuna tartare immediately, optionally with wonton crisps on the side.
Notes
- Ensure the tuna is fresh and sushi-grade for safety.
- Adjust the amount of wasabi paste according to your spice preference.
- The wonton crisps are optional but add a nice crunch to the dish.
