Ingredients
Scale
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon (optional)
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup green onions, chopped (for garnish)
- Assorted crackers, bread, or fruit for serving
Instructions
- Rinse the Cranberries: If using fresh cranberries, rinse them under cold water. Frozen cranberries can be used directly.
- Cook the Cranberries: In a medium saucepan, combine cranberries and sugar. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture simmers and cranberries pop (about 5-7 minutes).
- Add Flavor: Once softened, stir in cinnamon (if using) and salt. Remove from heat and let cool for 10-15 minutes; the mixture will thicken as it cools.
- Soften the Cream Cheese: Ensure cream cheese is at room temperature. If needed, microwave for 10-15 seconds to soften.
- Mix the Cream Cheese and Sour Cream: In a large bowl, combine softened cream cheese and sour cream. Beat until smooth and creamy (about 2-3 minutes).
- Add Vanilla Extract: Mix in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
- Incorporate the Cranberry Mixture: Gently fold the cooled cranberry mixture into the cream cheese mixture, creating swirls.
- Add Nuts (Optional): If using, fold in chopped pecans or walnuts for added crunch.
- Transfer to Serving Dish: Spoon the dip into a decorative serving bowl.
- Chill: Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or longer for enhanced flavors).
- Garnish: Before serving, sprinkle chopped green onions on top for color and freshness.
- Prepare Accompaniments: Arrange assorted crackers, bread, or fresh fruit on a platter.
- Serve: Place the dip in the center of the platter and encourage guests to enjoy with spreaders or spoons.
