This Ahi Tuna Salad features seared tuna steaks on a bed of fresh mixed greens and vibrant vegetables, topped with a zesty homemade dressing. It’s a healthy, flavorful dish perfect for any meal.

  • Total Time: 23 minutes
  • Yield: 2 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 Ahi tuna steaks (about 6 ounces each)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (black or white)
  • 4 cups mixed salad greens (arugula, spinach, and romaine work well)
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 1/2 cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup radishes, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup cilantro, chopped
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice

Instructions

  1. Pat the Ahi tuna steaks dry with paper towels to ensure a good sear.
  2. Drizzle 1 tablespoon of olive oil over the tuna steaks, coating them well.
  3. Season both sides with salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Sprinkle sesame seeds on both sides, pressing gently to adhere.
  5. Heat a non-stick skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil and let it heat until shimmering.
  6. Carefully place the tuna steaks in the pan. Cook for 1-2 minutes on each side for rare, or 3-4 minutes for medium-rare.
  7. Remove the tuna from the pan and let it rest for a few minutes.
  8. In a large bowl, combine mixed salad greens, cherry tomatoes, avocado, cucumber, red onion, radishes, and cilantro. Toss gently.
  9. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, grated ginger, sesame oil, and lime juice to make the dressing.
  10. Slice the rested Ahi tuna into thin strips (about 1/4 inch thick).
  11. Drizzle a portion of the dressing over the salad and toss gently.
  12. Arrange the dressed salad on plates or a serving platter.
  13. Top with sliced Ahi tuna and drizzle any remaining dressing over the top. Garnish with extra sesame seeds if desired.
  14. Serve immediately while the tuna is still warm. Pairs well with white wine or iced tea.
  15. Store leftover salad components separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator.

Notes

  • When selecting Ahi tuna, look for bright red color and firm texture for the best flavor.
  • Adjust cooking time based on your preference for doneness.
  • Feel free to customize the salad with your favorite ingredients or add a spicy kick with jalapeños or sriracha.
